Gulchehra Jo‘rayeva began her career at a newspaper, then worked at the «Yoshlik» («Youth») journal, the Women's Committee of Uzbekistan, and as a literary consultant at the Writers' Union of Uzbekistan. Dozens of collections of poems and epics have reached readers. She has been awarded the title of «Honored Cultural Worker of the Republic of Uzbekistan». She has also been awarded the «Mehnat Shuhrati» («Glory of Labor») order.
Biography
She was born in the village of Do‘rmon in the Shofirkon district of Bukhara, into an educated family. She graduated from the Faculty of Journalism of Tashkent State University (1959). She began her career at newspapers. She worked at the «O‘zbekiston Madaniyati» («Culture of Uzbekistan») newspaper for decades.
Her creative work also flourished during those same years. Later, she worked at the «Yoshlik» journal (1982), the Women's Committee of Uzbekistan (1991), and as a literary consultant at the Writers' Union of Uzbekistan from 1996 to 1997. The poet's creative beginnings date back to the 50s.
Career
Her first poem, titled «Tashakkur» («Gratitude»), was published in the press in 1954. Her first book, titled «Baxtim Borki...» («Since I Have Happiness...»), was published in 1961. Subsequently, along with dozens of collections such as «Gul Shaydosi» («Enamored of the Rose») (1969), «Bog‘imda Bahor» («Spring in My Garden») (1968), «Hayajon» («Excitement») (1971), «Umr - Daryo» («Life is a River») (1974), «Salom, Do‘stlar» («Hello, Friends») (1975), «Eng Yaqin Yulduz» («The Closest Star») (1979), «Dostonlar» («Epics») (1981), «Iqbol» («Prosperity») (1983), and «Mehrim Sizniki» («My Love is Yours») (1984), she also published epics such as «Chavandoz» («Horseman»), «Imtihon» («Exam»), and «Zuhro Yulduzi» («Morning Star»). By 1987, her «Selected Works» consisting of poems and epics were published under the title «Gulshan Aro» («In the Rose Garden»). In short, more than twenty collections of the poet have reached readers so far. In the poet's poems, feelings such as love for the motherland, reunion and separation, love and jealousy are harmoniously combined to create a rainbow of poetry. In 1992, Gulchehra Jo‘rayeva was awarded the title of «Honored Cultural Worker of the Republic of Uzbekistan». She has also been awarded the «Mehnat Shuhrati» («Glory of Labor») order.
